VisualClicks vs Google Analytics 4: features, privacy and SEO compared

Google Analytics 4 is the most widely used web analytics tool and is closely tied to Google Ads, Search Console and BigQuery. VisualClicks takes a different approach: analytics, heatmaps, session replays and a technical SEO check in one tool, hosted in Germany and cookieless if you like.

Google Analytics 4 is a good fit if …

  • you rely heavily on Google Ads and the Google ecosystem
  • you want to analyse raw data in BigQuery
  • a free tool matters more to you than data storage in Germany

VisualClicks is a good fit if …

  • you want numbers, heatmaps and replays in one place
  • you want to measure without cookies and keep data in Germany
  • you want to check domain, URLs and rankings technically
  • you want to see AI crawler requests

The key differences

Privacy and data storage

GA4 collects EU data on servers in the EU; Google does not specify where it is stored. Without consent, Consent Mode only sends limited, cookieless signals. VisualClicks runs on servers in Germany, stores no IP addresses and, in cookieless mode, measures every visit – joined only within a single day.

Heatmaps and session replays

GA4 includes neither heatmaps nor replays; an additional tool is usually added for that. In VisualClicks, click and scroll heatmaps on the live page and replays with masked inputs are part of the product – on the same data and with the same filters as the reports.

SEO and technology

GA4 shows Search Console data but checks neither the domain nor pages technically. VisualClicks rates certificate, DNS, security headers and crawl files, measures Core Web Vitals of every URL for phone and desktop and tracks keyword rankings compared with competitors.

AI traffic and AI crawlers

Both tools report visits from AI assistants as a channel of their own. GA4 filters AI crawlers out as bots; VisualClicks captures their requests through the server API or a log import and shows which pages they read.

Using VisualClicks and Google Analytics 4 together?

Yes, both can run side by side – for example GA4 for Google Ads campaigns and VisualClicks for heatmaps, replays, the SEO check and as a cookieless baseline that also counts visitors without consent.

Frequently asked questions

Is VisualClicks an alternative to Google Analytics?

For reach, channels, pages, funnels and e-commerce, yes. VisualClicks also brings heatmaps, session replays and a technical SEO check that GA4 does not include. If you work heavily with Google Ads and BigQuery, GA4 offers the deeper integration.

Can I import data from Google Analytics?

VisualClicks does not offer an import of historical GA4 data. Measurement starts once the tracking code is in place; running both side by side lets you compare the numbers.

Do I need a cookie banner for Google Analytics?

Google expects a consent mechanism for GA4; Consent Mode controls what is sent without consent. Whether your setup as a whole requires a banner is something only your data protection adviser can assess.
